The Allen Bradley SMC-50 range of soft starters are a premium offering within Allen-Bradley’s portfolio. The SMC-50 is available from 90A - 520A and is suited to mining and industry applications.
Featuring the new sensorless linear acceleration and deceleration starting and stopping modes; exacting motor control is achieved even under varying load conditions. In addition, an extensive range of start and stop modes are included as standard, including pump, braking and torque control modes - ensuring application functionalities are fully satisfied.
Advanced motor protection functions, power monitoring and metering, the SMC-50 also includes full fault diagnostics with a real time clock. Furthermore, emergency run mode, motor winding heater and slow speed functions offer application flexibility. Utilizing solid state three phase power structure, the SMC-50 offers flexibility of installing an optional external bypass contactor for minimal heat dissipation during run time.
What makes the SMC-50 ideal for mining is the conformal coating. Dirt and dust will not affect functionality because there are no mechanical parts to let dirt in and shorten the life of the unit. The SMC-50 takes this a step further and provide conformal coating, adding an extra level of protection against conductive dust or environmental corrosion.

In addition, a full complement of field fit expansion cards are available, catering for additional I/O as well as ground fault and PTC inputs.
