Lighting Efficiencies

If You Have NOT Upgraded to Efficient Lighting, You Are Leaving Money on the Table!

Your facility’s monthly electric bill has two-line items that everyone should pay attention to:

  1. Total Amount Due
  2. A Fee for “Energy Efficiency Programs.”

The first one is obviously the amount you pay to your local utility for the month. However, it may be possible for your business to cut that cost by up to 50% without sacrificing service, quality, or comfort.

By investing in more energy-efferent lighting for your facility, you will immediately see the benefit on your company’s bottom line. Not only by lowering your monthly electric bills, but also by improving productivity, increasing property value, and reducing maintenance needs.

Depending on the size of your facility, an energy efficient lighting upgrade can require a major upfront investment. That is where the 2nd line item on your bill comes in to play. Your company is already paying a fee to the local utility each month for their energy efficiency programs, which are funded by companies just like yours.

In Illinois and Wisconsin, Comed, Ameren and Focus on Energy offer large incentives for upgrading to LED Lighting. They also offer additional incentives to control your new lighting with Occupancy, Daylight Harvesting, and Timeclock functions. These large incentives help alleviate a significant portion of the initial financial cost of the lighting upgrade and in most cases, the incentive will pay for itself in less than 3 years. After that, all realized savings go straight to the bottom line.

Here are the Types of Incentives you can Expect if you Have a Warehouse/Industrial Facility with Existing HID or Fluorescent Lighting:

1) Illinois company within Comed Territory upgrading 250 existing 400 Watt Metal Halide Highbays to new 24,000 Lumen LED Highbays with Occupancy Sensors installed on each fixture would receive an estimated incentive check from Comed between $38,000 and $42,000. On top of that, if the lights are on 12hrs day/7 days a week, they can estimate over $35,000 in annual energy savings alone not to mention the additional savings on maintenance. With this type of LED fixture upgrade project that includes a professional installation by an electrical contractor, the overall payback could be expected to come in under 2 years.

2) Even just an office space that was upgraded 5-6 years ago with T8 Fluorescent lighting can still take advantage… Take a small office space with 120 existing 4ft 4-Lamp T8 Fluorescent recessed fixtures. Upgrade each one of these fixtures with an equivalent new LED fixture and install occupancy sensors throughout the office and you would be looking at an estimated incentive check from Comed between $4,000 and $4,500. On top of that, if the lights are on 10hrs day/5 days a week, they can estimate over $2,500 in annual energy savings alone and not have to worry about fluorescent lamp and ballast change outs anymore. With this type of LED fixture upgrade project that includes a professional installation by an electrical contractor, the overall payback could be expected to come in around 3 years.
